KYLE FAIRWEATHER ARRESTED IN ARBROATH FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT AND BAIL BREACHES

A violent incident involving Kyle Fairweather, a resident of Arbroath, has culminated in his imprisonment following a severe assault on his partner. The assault occurred late at night and left the woman with a head injury so serious that her hair was matted with blood. The incident took place at her home in Arbroath, where Fairweather launched a brutal attack that included punching her in the head and body, pushing her forcefully, and grabbing her by the hair. During the assault, he repeatedly slammed her head against a wall, causing significant injury and bleeding.

In addition to the physical violence, Fairweather also damaged the woman’s mobile phone, effectively preventing her from calling for help. The attack was so violent that a neighbor, hearing the commotion, called emergency services and later intervened by going to the back door of the woman’s residence. The neighbor witnessed Fairweather holding the woman by the sides of her head and repeatedly hitting her head against a wall, which resulted in heavy bleeding. The neighbor shouted at Fairweather to release her, which he eventually did. The injured woman managed to seek refuge with the neighbor until police arrived.

Medical personnel at Ninewells Hospital examined her injuries, which included a 3cm cut on the side of her head that was glued shut. The woman’s face and arms were swollen, and her hair was blood-matted, indicating the severity of the assault. Prosecutor Jill Drummond described the incident, stating that Fairweather and the woman had been in a long-term relationship, but on the night of June 8, 2023, he suddenly flew into a rage without warning. She detailed how he began pushing and punching her, grabbing her hair, and repeatedly hitting her head against the wall while she screamed for help.

Further complicating the case, Fairweather took the woman’s phone, threw it, damaged it, and prevented her from contacting her mother. Despite the assault, Fairweather was released on bail but continued to violate court orders meant to protect the woman. On July 8, police found him hiding in a hallway cupboard at her residence. He was also caught on January 22, after banging and shouting in her flat, and again on February 16, when he attempted to escape through a rear window and activated an emergency button on a police officer’s device.

Fairweather, aged 35, has a history of domestic-related convictions from 2010 and 2014, including a jail sentence. He had been living in homeless accommodation at the Aboukir Hotel in Carnoustie at the time of these incidents. His solicitor, Billy Rennie, stated that both parties had struggled with drug addiction, with Fairweather reportedly using heroin. He also mentioned that the woman wanted to continue the relationship despite the difficulties and was currently hospitalized due to serious drug issues that had developed recently.

In court, Sheriff Paul Ralph sentenced Fairweather to 67 weeks in prison, citing his repeated breaches of bail conditions and his failure to take responsibility for his actions. The sheriff criticized Fairweather for withholding details of the assault from social workers and emphasized that the victim deserved a break after multiple chances had been given to him. The court noted that this was the fifth or sixth breach of bail conditions, despite Fairweather’s guilty plea to the assault. The sheriff concluded that there were no viable alternatives to imprisonment, underscoring the seriousness of the case and the need for justice in the face of ongoing threats and violence from Fairweather.
