"EVIL" CHILD MURDERER WHO LEFT BABY WITH 101 INJURIES KILLED IN HMP WAKEFIELD BY OTHER INMATES

November 2025: Three inmates have been arrested on suspicion of murder after convicted child killer Kyle Bevan was found dead inside HMP Wakefield, a high-security prison in West Yorkshire.

Police were called to the jail at 08:25 GMT on Wednesday following reports that a man had been discovered dead in his cell.

The Prison Service later confirmed the deceased as 33-year-old Kyle Bevan, who was serving a life sentence for the murder of his partner’s two-year-old daughter, Lola James, in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, in 2020.

West Yorkshire Police said Bevan’s death is being treated as suspicious and that inquiries are ongoing to determine exactly what happened.

“Three men, all of whom are serving prisoners, have been arrested on suspicion of murder,” a police spokesperson confirmed.

During Bevan’s sentencing in 2023, the court heard how he inflicted catastrophic brain injuries on little Lola during a brutal attack at the family home, leaving her with 101 separate external injuries.

Mr Justice Martin Griffiths described Bevan’s violence as “an assertion of superiority over the only person he could feel superior to – a helpless child.” Bevan, from Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, was ordered to serve a minimum of 28 years in prison.

Lola’s mother, Sinead James, was jailed for six years for causing or allowing her daughter’s death.

A cruelty case has resulted in Kyle Bevan, a 31-year-old stepdad, facing a murder charge after inflicting catastrophic injuries on a two-year-old girl named Lola James during a violent and frenzied attack.

Lola was found to have sustained a total of 101 injuries throughout her body, injuries described as "severe and extensive" and likened to a "high speed car crash".

The injuries included bruises, puncture wounds, petechial hemorrhages, and head trauma, which a paediatrician testified could not be caused by a domestic fall.

Dr Deborah Stalker explained, "The very severe and extensive injuries on Lola are not explained by a fall down domestic stairs.

The most likely cause, in my opinion, is non-accidental injury, purposefully-inflicted injury, or physical abuse – the three terms are synonymous." The attack occurred in July 2020 at the family home in Pembrokeshire, Wales.

The court observed that Bevan did not call an ambulance immediately after the assault but instead recorded a disturbing 22-second video of Lola as she was struggling, attempting to prop her up.

Lola died four days later.

Bevan was convicted of murder following a harrowing trial at Swansea Crown Court.

His partner, Sinead James, Lola’s mother, also faced charges of causing or allowing the death of a child but denied the allegation.

The court heard that James claimed she was woken by a bang and Lola's scream but saw no injuries when she entered the room.

Bevan initially tried to shift blame, claiming the family dog pushed Lola down the stairs, but medical evidence proved the injuries were inconsistent with a fall.

The detailed list of injuries to Lola indicated deliberate abuse, with injuries to her brain, neck, ears, back, legs, and head.

The prosecution concluded that the injuries were caused by non-accidental trauma, and Dr Stalker affirmed her belief that the injuries could only have resulted from abuse.

Lola’s family paid tribute to her, describing her as their "forever diamond up in the sky" and expressing profound grief and gratitude for the police and support teams involved.

Daniel Thomas, her biological father, expressed his grief stating, "The pain and grief I feel every time I close my eyes and see your perfect little face is unbearable… even to say your name shatters my heart." The court heard that Bevan had denied murder and attempted to blame the family dog.

Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Roberts emphasized that Bevan lied to cover his tracks, but medical experts proved his actions were intentional and heinous.

Meanwhile, Sinead James was found to have been aware of Bevan's violent tendencies but failed in her duty to protect Lola, leading to her conviction.

The sentencing for Bevan and James is scheduled for April 25 at Swansea Crown Court.
