STAMFORD MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT FACES DEPORTATION
Krystian Grzonka, a 20-year-old man from Andrews Road, Stamford, was convicted of a sexual assault that took place in the Rutland Terrace area of Stamford at 3.30am on May 20.The victim, a woman walking home alone, was chased and then sexually assaulted after Grzonka followed her for several minutes, put his arm around her neck, tackled her to the ground, and touched her inappropriately.
CCTV footage showed Grzonka walking around and deliberately following the woman before the attack.
Although he initially denied the offence, he was found guilty by a jury.
During the court hearing, the victim described how she has been profoundly affected, stating, “Not a day goes by when I don’t think about what happened and I know it will be like that for a long time,” and shared that she now suffers from nightmares, panic attacks, and carries a rape alarm.
The judge sentenced Grzonka to an extended sentence of eight and a half years — four and a half years in a young offenders institution with an additional four years on license due to the dangerous nature of his offence.
He also faces deportation from the UK.
The sentencing was led by Recorder Christopher Donnellan QC, who expressed concern over the lack of explanation for Grzonka’s actions and emphasized the offender’s dangerousness.
He noted that the victim had observed Grzonka following her and had briefly considered calling emergency services before he suddenly ran after her.
The court highlighted that Grzonka, who had no prior convictions, acted spontaneously and had recently arrived in the UK in 2016 with his family, who returned to Poland afterward.
