MUM ENCOURAGED GROUP OF CHILDREN TO PLAY SEXUAL GAME OF TRUTH OR DARE IN HER HOUSE
A woman from Buckie, Moray, has been placed on the sex offender’s register following serious allegations of encouraging minors to engage in sexually inappropriate behaviour within her home.Kirstyann Kavanagh, aged 23, faced court proceedings at Elgin Sheriff Court after being linked to a series of troubling incidents involving a group of local children.
The court heard that Kavanagh supplied alcohol to a group of teenagers aged between 13 and 15 and later engaged them in a game of truth or dare, which escalated to sexualised challenges.
According to prosecutor Sharon Ralph, the minors, all residents of Buckie, were invited to Kavanagh’s residence in Carnie Place on October 9, 2021, marking the start of the school holidays.
The teenagers had gathered in the town, pooling approximately £30 to buy alcohol, which included a crate of Strongbow dark fruit cider and two bottles of Echo Falls wine.
A girl from the group contacted Kavanagh via Snapchat requesting her to purchase alcohol for them.
Kavanagh agreed and made the purchase, then invited the teenagers to her home to drink.
The alcohol was consumed in her living room or bedroom while two other adults were present but did not partake or intervene in the activities.
During the evening, Kavanagh proposed a game of truth or dare to the teenagers, who were under the influence of alcohol and some were visibly intoxicated.
She reportedly warned the teens that those who refused to play would have to leave.
While two of the children opted to exit the property, the remaining group members continued playing.
As the game progressed, the dares transitioned into sexual challenges, causing discomfort among some of the teenagers.
At one point, Kavanagh dared two boys to kiss girls, an act which was recorded by one of the minors.
In response, Kavanagh demanded the boys put their phones in a cot to prevent further recordings.
The court was told that the game persisted for a significant period, with increasingly sexual tasks being introduced.
One dare involved a boy touching a girl’s breasts, but both parties declined and refused to carry out the challenge due to feeling uncomfortable.
Later, Kavanagh told the teenagers that those who did not wish to stay overnight could leave, prompting almost all to depart.
However, three of the teenagers decided to stay and spent the night sleeping in her living room, while Kavanagh herself slept in her bedroom.
Alarmingly, it emerged that none of the teenagers’ parents were aware of their whereabouts or the nature of their stay, only learning of the incident when the teens returned home the following morning.
Police were contacted, and Kavanagh was initially denying the allegations.
However, during the court hearing, she ultimately entered a guilty plea to multiple charges, including buying alcohol for minors, recklessly allowing underage drinking, encouraging sexual behaviour among children, and acting contrary to the Sexual Offences Act.
Her legal representative, Robert Cruickshank, indicated that mitigation would be presented after social work reports that were described as “illuminative” were completed.
These reports are expected to shed further light on her background.
Presiding Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood ordered a deferment of sentencing until next month and mandated that Kavanagh remain on the sex offender register in the meantime, fulfilling the notification requirements imposed on convicted offenders.
