MARGATE WOMAN KIRSTEN TAYLOR ESCAPES JAIL AFTER SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH 14-YEAR-OLD SCHOOLGIRL
In June 2017, a woman from Margate, identified as Kirsten Taylor, was involved in a disturbing case that drew significant attention from local authorities and the community.Taylor, aged 21 and residing on Mere Gate, was found to have engaged in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons.
The relationship was described by prosecutors as a 'secret affair' that lasted for several months, during which Taylor and the young girl maintained a clandestine connection.
According to court proceedings, Taylor, who was 19 at the time of the offences, would secretly bring the girl into her parents' house, hiding their relationship from the world.
The sexual activities began around February 2015 and continued for approximately six to seven months.
The prosecution, led by Donna East, detailed how the relationship evolved over time, with Taylor initially making the girl feel special and valued.
However, as the relationship progressed, Taylor became increasingly controlling, prompting the girl to end it herself.
During the court hearing, it was revealed that Taylor justified her actions by claiming she was a teenager in her mind and that she believed she was in charge of the sexual encounters.
She also expressed concern about the relationship becoming known, fearing she would be labeled a paedophile.
The victim’s mother eventually discovered the affair, leading to Taylor’s arrest in October 2015.
At Canterbury Crown Court, Judge Heather Norton addressed the court, emphasizing the gravity of the offence.
She pointed out that although Taylor was relatively young herself, the victim was only 14 years old and still a child.
The judge noted that Taylor was aware her actions were wrong but chose to continue with the relationship nonetheless.
The victim’s account described feelings of confusion and fear, and she reported that the relationship had a negative impact on her school life.
In sentencing, Taylor received a 14-month suspended prison sentence, meaning she would not serve time immediately but would be under supervision.
She was also subjected to a curfew from 8 pm to 7 am, requiring her to stay within her home during those hours.
Additionally, she was ordered to complete a 60-day female sex offenders programme and was fined £100.
The court also imposed restrictions preventing Taylor from contacting the victim or her family, aiming to protect the young girl from further harm and to prevent any potential intimidation or harassment.
This case highlights the serious consequences of engaging in inappropriate relationships with minors, and the court’s decision reflects the importance of safeguarding vulnerable young individuals from exploitation and abuse.
