'NO WAY IN HELL': MARGATE SEX OFFENDER'S LIES EXPOSED DURING CHILD ABUSE TRIAL
A man convicted of child sexual abuse, Kevin O’Toole, told police during an interview that there was “no way in hell” he had committed the crimes.He had assaulted a young girl in Margate, forcing her to perform sexual acts, until she bravely confided in an adult about what had happened.
O’Toole was taken into custody after the incidents occurred between 2022 and 2023, but he firmly denied ever having touched his victim during the police questioning.
When asked about the allegations, the 46-year-old responded with “no way in hell.” He was released on strict conditional bail while authorities continued their investigation.
In June of the previous year, police in Lincoln, where O’Toole had moved after his arrest, executed a search warrant at his residence and found over 180 indecent images of children on his electronic devices.
He was subsequently detained and questioned regarding these materials.
Formerly residing on Canwick Road in Lincoln, O’Toole faced charges including three counts of encouraging a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, sexual assault of a child under 13, penetration of a child, engaging in sexual acts in front of a child, attempted penetration of a child, and possession of indecent images.
He entered a plea of not guilty, but after a three-day trial at Canterbury Crown Court in May, the jury unanimously convicted him on all charges.
On the following day, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison at the same court.
Additionally, he will be subject to a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Detective Constable Michael Lord, who led the investigation, stated: “First and foremost, I want to commend the victim’s bravery in this case.
“The courage she demonstrated in revealing what happened and supporting our investigation over the years has been extraordinary.
“O’Toole attempted to deny his involvement at every turn, despite the substantial evidence against him.
I am pleased with the court’s sentence and hope it provides some closure for the victim and her family.”
