KENT MAN FACING CHILD SEX TRIAL FOUND DEAD AT CORNISH CLIFF
A man who was found dead at the bottom of a cliff in Cornwall had been due to stand trial at Crown court two days later.David John Grover, 72, from Margate, has been named by the coroner as the person recovered from the rocks in Mousehole last week.
An inquest into his death was officially opened and adjourned on Thursday (November 27) by Cornwall's coroner.
His body was discovered on Saturday, November 22, which prompted a massive emergency response with Devon and Cornwall Police.
Ambulance crews were called to the coast path, while coastguard cliff rescue teams and RNLI crews searched the cliff and water below.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 2pm after reports of a concern for the welfare of a man along Cliff Road.
It has been revealed that on Monday, November 24, Mr Grover had been due to stand trial at Canterbury Crown Court where he faced allegations of sexual assault and a child sex offence, according to Cornwall Live.
The team found his case listed on The Law Pages website, although it has been removed since they contacted the court.
The courts confirmed he had been charged with three counts of indecent assault, one of sexual assault and a fifth charge of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
A clerk at Canterbury Crown Court said the case was still outstanding and there will be another hearing to resolve the matter now Mr Grover has died.
They said: "The case is currently at a sensitive stage and we cannot provide any further information.
The next hearing date is currently yet to be fixed." Devon and Cornwall Police said Mr Grover's death was not being treated as suspicious and they were preparing a file for a full inquest to determine the cause of his death, which will be held next year.
A spokesperson for Kent Police said the force would not comment on the matter.
