KHALID JAMAL'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN GLASGOW AND BALLOCH LEAD TO SIX-YEAR JAIL SENTENCE

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Glasgow and Balloch, Khalid Jamal, a 45-year-old doctor originally from India, has been sentenced to six years in prison for heinous sexual offenses involving two women. The crimes, which took place over a span of several years, included the rape of a teenage girl and the sexual assault of another woman, both of whom met Jamal through online dating platforms.

Jamal’s interactions with his victims began on the internet, where he presented himself as a suitable partner. He then invited them to his home, where unsettling incidents unfolded. One of his victims, now aged 27, recounted that she had gone out with Jamal on multiple occasions before the assault. On Christmas Eve in 2013, she was at his flat located on Glasgow’s Great Western Road when he attacked her after she refused to engage in sexual activity. The court heard that Jamal’s actions left her profoundly affected, a sentiment echoed by the judge during sentencing.

The second victim, a teenager at the time, was lured to Jamal’s “cabin” in Balloch, Dunbartonshire, sometime between April and May 2016. The court was told that Jamal, who falsely claimed to be 24 years old, had initially met her in Glasgow city centre for what was supposed to be a first date. The young girl saw Jamal again in September, when he had promised to drive her home after a night out. Instead, he took her to his flat in Parkhead, Glasgow, where he sexually assaulted her. Jamal’s disturbing behavior was further revealed during police interviews, where he claimed to be a doctor who wanted to help people, despite the evidence against him.

Throughout the trial, Jamal displayed a lack of remorse, often smirking at his victims in court. He continued to deny the allegations, asserting that both women had fabricated their stories. The jury, however, found him guilty last month of raping the teenager and sexually abusing the other woman. The High Court in Glasgow sentenced him to six years in prison, emphasizing that his actions had a profound impact on the victims.

Judge Johanna Johnston, who presided over the case, stated that Jamal’s long-standing career as a doctor and his involvement in charity work did not mitigate the severity of his crimes. Before placing him on the sex offenders register, she remarked, “As a doctor for many years you served the community and you were involved in charity work, but given the nature of these offences only a significant custodial sentence is appropriate.”
