NEWPORT MAN ON TRIAL ACCUSED OF RAPING WOMAN IN RISCA
A MAN has gone on trial accused of raping a woman.Robbins, of Wyndham Street in Newport, appeared at Newport Crown Court charged with three offences of rape.
Robbins denied all three charges.
Opening the case, prosecutor Ieuan Bennett said Robbins was alleged to have raped a woman in a car on the evening of June 30, 2021.
The prosecution alleged that the complainant called Robbins for a lift that evening, but he drove her to a secluded area in Risca and carried out the sexual attack.
Mr Bennett said the complainant called friends and family members when she got home, before then reporting the allegation to the police.
Robbins was arrested the following day.
“He denied the incident happened on June 30, 2021, as she had described,” Mr Bennett said.
“When interviewed in relation to two further charges of rape from between 2018 and 2020, the 44-year-old defendant denied that he had non-consensual sex.
The trial continues.
