GLASGOW RAPIST ATTACKED VICTIM 3 TIMES IN 24 HOURS
A rapist who feels “sorry” for himself has been jailed for 10 years for repeatedly raping a woman and subjecting her to physical violence.Kevin McVey, 30, preyed on his victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, at various locations in Glasgow between August 2022 and March 2023.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard on Wednesday how McVey, formerly of the city’s Govan area, was found guilty earlier this year on rape and sexual assault charges.
But the court also heard that McVey maintains he is innocent of any wrongdoing and is unable to appreciate the impact his actions had on his traumatised victim.
Ordering him to be supervised by the authorities for three years following his release from custody, Lady Ross told McVey he needed to go to prison for his crimes.
She added: “These offences were nasty and vicious.
You subjected your victim - who herself had her own vulnerabilities to an appalling course of sexual and physical violence.
You have no insight into your own offending or understanding of the impact that your actions have had on your victim.
“You only feel sorry for yourself.
You clearly have a long way to go to face up to your actions.” The story emerged after the case called for McVey, who observed proceedings via video link, to be sentenced.
On an earlier occasion, the court heard how McVey raped his victim three times in 24 hours in August 2022.
A jury heard how McVey seized the woman by her hair and pinned her down before carrying out the sexual assault on her.
McVey also raped the female as she slept and was unable to provide consent.
On other occasions, McVey punched the woman on the head.
Eventually the woman plucked up enough courage to contact the police to tell them about what McVey did to her.
He was arrested by detectives who had gathered evidence against him.
But McVey breached bail conditions not to approach or contact his victim.
Eventually, McVey was brought to court, stood trial and was convicted.
The defendant suffers from poor mental health stemming from childhood experiences, including discovering his father's body, which contributed to his troubled upbringing.
Passing sentence, Lady Ross placed McVey on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
