A husband smothered his wife to death after she taunted him about his lack of sexual prowess.This incident occurred on November 27 last year at their home in Gateshead.
Kevin McNally, aged 48, was found holding a cushion over his wife Alison McNally's face when paramedics arrived.
The couple, married for 23 years and with two children aged 21 and 14, had been experiencing marital problems, with McNally revealing to his sister that they had been arguing and things were not well.
On the day of the tragedy, McNally called his sister and admitted he had 'lost it' and thought he might have killed her.
When emergency services arrived, he initially refused entry but was eventually persuaded inside, where he was kneeling over Alison, still holding a cushion over her face with considerable force.
He was arrested and told police that Alison had accused him of having a 'roving eye' and criticizing his sexual technique.
McNally claimed to remember very little about what led to the killing, only recalling lying next to her and holding her hand.
The case originally charged him with murder, but he pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility due to suffering from a depressive illness at the time.
Since the incident, he has attempted to take his own life.
The court, presided over by Judge John Milford, adjourned sentencing for 28 days, indicating that McNally is likely to be sentenced to a hospital order.
