KEVIN MCEVOY FROM TIPTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN WOLVERHAMPTON
In a case that has shocked the local community of Tipton and the wider Wolverhampton area, Kevin McEvoy has been sentenced to a year in prison after being found in possession of nearly 1,300 indecent images of children.The disturbing discovery was made after police investigations traced the illicit material back to McEvoy, who resides on Waterfield Close in Tipton.
According to court reports, the police received information in May of the previous year indicating that a file containing child exploitation images had been uploaded to a legitimate website.
This prompted immediate action from the website operators, who temporarily shut down the site until the offending content was removed.
They then passed the relevant information to law enforcement authorities, leading to the identification of McEvoy as the individual responsible.
On May 29, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at McEvoy’s residence.
During the raid, they seized his computer and mobile phone for forensic examination.
The investigation revealed that McEvoy had downloaded the images using various internet search engines and file-sharing platforms.
The images were categorized into different levels of severity, with 505 images at level one, 64 at level two, 292 at level three, 435 at level four, and two at level five, which is considered the most serious category.
The images depicted children aged between five and six up to approximately thirteen years old.
Prosecutor Mr.
Mark Phillips stated that McEvoy admitted to actively using search engines and file-sharing sites to locate these illicit images.
Although he did upload some images, there was no evidence to suggest that he distributed or shared them further.
Importantly, the court was informed that there was no indication that any of the children depicted were known to McEvoy, nor did he create any of the images himself.
In court, McEvoy, aged 48, pleaded guilty to the charges.
He was subsequently sentenced to a term of one year in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and was subject to a Sex Offenders Prevention Order for the same duration.
These measures are intended to monitor and restrict his activities moving forward.
Defence lawyer Mrs.
Alison Scott-Jones acknowledged her client’s guilty plea and emphasized that only two of the images fell into the most serious category.
She pointed out that the majority of the images were at levels three or four, suggesting a lesser degree of severity.
However, Judge Amjad Nawaz was unequivocal in his assessment, stating, “These images were downloaded by you.
It was no accident; it was deliberate.
I accept there was no intention to distribute these images, but that does not diminish the seriousness of your actions.
This matter is so grave that only an immediate custodial sentence is appropriate.”
