DRUNK DAD PUNCHES DAUGHTER ON CHRISTMAS IN STOKE-ON-TRENT

A drunk dad avoided a jail sentence after attacking his own daughter 'in a violent Christmas from hell', a court heard.

David Treadwell had downed 15 pints of beer when he told his daughter that she was taking advantage of his wife over childcare.

She responded by throwing a can at him, which resulted in him chucking a dog bowl at her, Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court was told.

He then hit her to the face and strangled her.

The daughter escaped and ran upstairs to be with her children.

The court was told that Treadwell, from Tipton, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation.

He was sentenced to 13 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to complete a rehabilitation activity requirement for 25 days.

He was also fined £500 and ordered to pay £250 costs.

Prosecutor Tom Griffiths described how the daughter, after overhearing an argument between her parents, challenged her father.

He did not react well, made derogatory comments, and threw a dog bowl which covered her in water.

He then punched her to the face, causing a black eye, and later strangled her after attempting to grab her around the neck, pushing her onto the floor and causing breathing issues.

The family was staying in a holiday cottage in Oakamoor, Staffordshire Moorlands, during the incident.
