TIPTON BACKYARD BREEDER RESPONSIBLE FOR EMACIATED DOGS, GETS 10-YEAR PET BAN
In October 2024 RSPCA inspectors seized four emaciated dogs from the home of backyard breeder Andrew Slocombe after finding them in a neglected state and living in unacceptable conditons. The dogs, named Duke, Minnie, Dolly and Nala, had received no veterinary care despite exhibiting obvious health problems including weight loss, flaky skin and leg injuries.
Very sadly, Minnie was so emaciated and unwell she had to be put to sleep.
Prosecuting for the RSPCA Junita Patel said: “The kennels were filthy and the smell of urine was overpowering.
There was no fresh water and due to being emaciated female bull dog Minnie had to be euthanised, Duke’s nails were dangerously long and he had flaky skin ..
he was covered in urine.
[Slocombe] self-medicated the dogs with unprescribed antibiotics which leads us to believe all of the dogs in his care are in danger.” He pleaded guilty to several charges of causing unnecessary suffering to animals by failing to investigate the causes of weight loss, leg injuries and poor body condition.
In mitigation, the court heard Slocombe “suffered from depression and and anxiety”.
Slocombe was ordered to hand over his seven remaining dogs to authorities with seven days.
Sentencing | 18-week custodial suspended for 18 months; 30 days of ‘rehab’; £540 costs.
Banned from owning pets for 10 years (expires March 2036).
