GATESHEAD MAN WITH 41 CONVICTIONS BEATS AND STRANGLES EX-PARTNER
A man identified as Kevin Gray, aged 36, from Gateshead, was involved in a serious domestic violence incident.
He let himself into his former partner's home, where she was taking her children to school, and waited for her.
Once she returned and ignored his call, he suddenly appeared from upstairs, took her phone, and then proceeded to attack her.
According to reports, he punched her, pinned her down, and strangled her until she said she couldn't breathe.
The woman managed to escape but suffered injuries including bruising to her head, a scratched lip, neck and arm pain, and a cut to her ear.
She expressed feeling safer after her locks were changed but remained fearful of him outside her home.
Kevin Gray, who has a lengthy criminal history with 41 previous convictions including GBH and assault, was arrested eight weeks later after posting on Facebook about a new relationship, which led to police intervention.
He pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation and was sentenced to 20 months suspended for two years with 200 hours of unpaid work.
The court judge emphasized the danger of strangulation, stating it can be deadly, and condemned Gray's behavior as disgraceful.
His defense argued that he was remorseful, had a troubled childhood, and alcohol problems since the age of 15, with his solicitor claiming he is devastated and seeking help.
