ABERDEEN ANIMAL ABUSER KEVIN GOFFIN SENTENCED FOR CRUELTY IN STREET FIGHT

Kevin Goffin, born on September 25, 1981, and residing on Crombie Road in the Torry area of Aberdeen, has been convicted of a disturbing act of animal cruelty that took place in the streets of Aberdeen. The incident involved Goffin kicking a small chihuahua into the air, an act that caused the tiny dog to yelp loudly in pain and distress. This violent act occurred amidst a heated argument with his girlfriend, highlighting a pattern of aggressive behavior that has been documented over Goffin's long history of convictions for disorderly conduct and violence.

Goffin, who also owns a valeting business called Mirror Finish Aberdeen Ltd, was involved in a confrontation that escalated into a physical assault not only on the dog but also in a threatening manner towards others. Witnesses reported that during the altercation, Goffin booted the defenseless dog approximately two to three feet into the air, an act that was witnessed by neighbors and other bystanders. The dog, suffering from the impact, was taken to a veterinarian where it was treated with methadone to manage its pain before being examined thoroughly. Fortunately, despite the pain and distress, the dog did not suffer any internal bleeding.

According to court proceedings, Goffin pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to the animal by kicking her in the abdomen and also to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner. The incident was detailed by depute fiscal Alan Townsend, who explained that Goffin had gone to his partner’s home around 10 pm on April 20, 2019. When he was refused entry, the woman believed he had left and took her dogs for a walk around midnight. During this walk, Goffin approached her, and a verbal argument ensued. Witnesses in the vicinity heard the woman plead, “Can you leave me alone? I’m really scared,” as tensions escalated.

As the argument intensified, police and witnesses observed Goffin kicking the dog into the air, which traveled about two or three feet before the animal yelped in pain. The distress was so severe that the woman was seen screaming and rushing to the door of one of the witnesses, visibly upset and in shock. The injured dog was in obvious pain, squealing whenever anyone touched it, indicating the severity of the injury.

Goffin’s legal representative argued that his client had been involved in a dispute with others in his flat complex and had been advised by police to leave the premises. The lawyer admitted that Goffin had consumed alcohol and drugs that night and expressed remorse for his actions towards the dog, stating, “What he did to the dog is something he’s very ashamed of.” The lawyer also mentioned that Goffin and his partner were still a couple, with the woman reportedly wanting to reconcile.

In sentencing, Sheriff Mark Stewart sentenced Goffin to six months in jail. The sheriff commented on Goffin’s lengthy criminal record, which includes multiple convictions related to disorder and violence, and expressed concern over the pattern of violence directed not only at people but also at animals and within domestic settings. The sheriff emphasized the troubling nature of such behavior, especially given its occurrence in a domestic context and its potential to escalate further.

Goffin’s actions in Aberdeen serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of violent and abusive conduct, both towards animals and individuals. His six-month jail sentence reflects the seriousness with which the court views such offenses, underscoring the importance of accountability and the protection of vulnerable beings in society.
