GLASGOW MAN GUILTY OF CHILD ABUSE AND POSSESSING INDECENT IMAGES
A sex abuse victim helped identify her attacker on Facebook. The victim, who was a child at the time of the abuse, reported that Kevin Battersby had repeatedly preyed upon her at a house in Glasgow's East End between 2002 and 2004.
In late 2022, she bravely reported her ordeal to police, and prosecutor Lucy Adams stated: "She was able to identify Battersby from his Facebook profile." The court heard that Battersby was quizzed but made no comment and was released, later confessing to his mother that he had been "a bad man." Police found indecent images of children on his iPad—specifically 11 sick photos—after checking his electronic devices.
Battersby, of Tollcross, had initially handed himself into police in April 2023 but was released due to insufficient evidence.
Later, he admitted guilt to lewd and libidinous behaviour and possession of indecent images in court.
He pleaded guilty on Friday, and a sentencing date is set for the New Year.
The judge stated: "Custody is inevitable and your application for bail is refused," and Battersby was placed on the sex offenders list.
