KEVIN ANDREWS FROM SUTTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IN CROYNON

In a case that has shocked the local community of Sutton, Kevin Andrews, a married man from Erskine Road, was sentenced to two years in prison for a series of heinous child abuse crimes that spanned several years. The offences, which involved two young victims, came to light after a lengthy investigation and court proceedings that revealed disturbing details of Andrews' misconduct.

Andrews, aged 52, was accused of abusing one of his victims starting from when she was just seven years old. The abuse persisted over a period of years, with Andrews reportedly engaging in manipulative and predatory behavior. Court documents detailed how Andrews would often read stories to his young victim before turning off the bedroom lights, then proceeding to get into bed with her and subject her to inappropriate physical contact, including groping. The victim described the abuse as ongoing, to the point where she believed such behavior was normal, highlighting the profound impact of Andrews' actions on her childhood.

In addition to this, Andrews was also accused of abusing a second victim. This victim recounted an incident following a party in 2000, where Andrews attempted to touch her inappropriately. She initially did not realize the severity of the situation but later understood that Andrews' actions were wrong. She responded by swearing at him, indicating her discomfort and awareness that the behavior was unacceptable.

The allegations against Andrews first surfaced in 2002, but he initially denied any wrongdoing. It was only last year that he admitted to his crimes during a consultation with his doctor. The doctor subsequently reported Andrews' confessions to the police, leading to his arrest and subsequent court proceedings.

Andrews appeared in Croydon Crown Court in December to face the charges. During the hearing, he pleaded guilty to seven counts of indecent assault. The court's sentencing took place on Thursday, March 14, where Judge Nicholas Ainley delivered the verdict. The judge acknowledged the severity of Andrews' crimes and the lasting damage inflicted upon his victims.

In his remarks, Judge Ainley expressed sympathy for Andrews' family, noting that his wife and children had already distanced themselves from him, paying a heavy personal price. The judge emphasized that Andrews' failure to admit his guilt early on had complicated the case and ultimately led to his imprisonment. He stated, “If full admissions had been made at the start, it could have been different, but you denied it.” The court's decision reflects the gravity of the offenses and the need for justice for the victims affected by Andrews' predatory behavior in Sutton.
