SEX OFFENDER MANDERSON JAILED FOR BABY HIDDEN IN DRAWER
A registered sex offender named Kenneth Manderson, aged 32, has been sent to jail after a baby was discovered inside a bedroom drawer at the flat he shared with his partner.Manderson had previously received a four-year sentence in 2010 for 11 offenses, including attempted child rape, committed while he was a juvenile.
The police found the seven-week-old baby at the property, leading to Manderson breaching his offender requirements.
He was sentenced to a year in prison at Carlisle Crown Court.
Manderson's original condition required him to inform authorities within three days if a child was residing in his household.
However, during an unannounced police visit in January, Manderson was found to be evading this obligation.
He claimed he and his partner were recovering from Covid-19 and refused permission for the officers to enter.
Despite denying the presence of a baby, police found an upturned Moses basket, baby clothes, and a crying child inside the flat.
The partner reached into a bottom drawer, revealing the seven-week-old baby, who was fully clothed and appeared well-cared for, according to the prosecutor.
Manderson admitted to a charge of failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements.
He was jailed for a year, and the court heard that there was no suggestion the baby had been harmed, with mitigation stating the baby was well-cared for and Manderson expressed remorse.
