88-YEAR-OLD MAN ACCUSED OF HISTORIC SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN CLACTON TO APPEAR IN COURT
A pensioner accused of sexually abusing a girl in Walton and Clacton nearly five decades ago is set to appear before court from a care home in Sussex.Keith Clitheroe, aged 88, is facing nine counts of sexual assault alleged to have occurred from 1970 to 1981.
During a court hearing, Dingle Clark, representing Clitheroe, disclosed that a report has determined Clitheroe is currently unfit to plead to the charges.
The prosecution, however, has the option to request another report that might lead to a different conclusion.
The case has been adjourned for six weeks to allow time for such a report to be prepared.
The judge, Alexander Mills, mentioned that Clitheroe, residing at Rye Close, Worthing, will attend the hearing via a video link from his care home, and stated, "I am afraid these things do take some time and I am going to adjourn it for the report to be served within six weeks." He further added, "I am not going to invite the court to start setting dates now – that seems to be a little premature."
