BOURNEMOUTH MAN JAILED FOR THREATENING EX WITH DEATH AND HARASSMENT
A WOMAN has been left in constant fear after her ex-partner threatened to kill her, a court heard.Karl Wicks repeatedly threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend, telling his own mother: “She will take her last breath very soon, as will I.” Prosecutor, Nate Lara, said on the evening of May 30 the woman received 10 emails from the defendant demanding to know where she was and accusing her of being with another man.
The following morning Wicks threatened to visit her house in Bournemouth and text his mother to say he was going to kill his ex-partner.
He said in a text to his mother: “She’s dying today or tomorrow, she’s ruined me.” Other messages said; “I warned her she’d be dead” “I’m going to kill her” and “I’m going to hers now, it’s death.” The defendant’s mother called 999 and went to the woman’s address.
In a victim impact statement, the ex-partner said: “Karl has made me feel deeply frightened for many years.
“He has made threats that people would harm me.” She added that she installed extra security on her home, which Wicks would mock.
“He has made my home feel like a place of danger rather than refuge,” she said.
The defendant’s mother said when Wicks drinks he sends ‘a barrage’ of texts and phone calls.
She added how he can be “very unpredictable”.
Mitigating, Ben Thompson, said Wicks has many mental health issues and “has previously tried to kill himself by throwing himself off a cliff”, causing brain haemorrhages.
Mr Thompson added how the defendant is “broken and desperate”, stating that he never intended to act on his threats.
However, Judge Robert Pawson said he was concerned that Wicks’ previous unstable behaviour caused someone serious harm, namely himself, and now he is making threats to kill.
He added that the woman has been left petrified and unsafe in her own home.
“She is in a constant state of fear and paranoia of being murdered.” For harassment and making threats to kill, Wicks, 39 and of Upper Norwich Road in Bournemouth was jailed for two years and four months.
He was also handed a restraining order from the victim for 10 years.
