KARL WALKER AND COURTNEY ORMSTON SENTENCED IN GATESHEAD MURDER CASE OF TWO-MONTH-OLD LOGAN ORMSTON
In a tragic case that has shocked the community of Gateshead, Karl Walker has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of two-month-old Logan Ormston.The sentencing took place at Newcastle Crown Court, where Walker, aged 25, was convicted of the heinous crime that resulted in the infant's death.
The court has mandated that Walker serve a minimum of 16 years behind bars before being eligible for parole, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of justice for the young victim.
Logan Ormston, who was just two months old at the time of his death, was found with multiple injuries, including a severe head trauma, after being rushed to Newcastle Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in March 2011.
The injuries were so severe that they ultimately led to his tragic demise.

Court documents revealed that Karl Walker was directly responsible for Logan’s death.

The court acknowledged the profound grief and suffering she has endured, stating, “There is no greater tragedy than losing a child, and your loss of Logan is a terrible tragedy that you have had to live with for the last two years and will continue to do so for the rest of your life.” Detective Chief Inspector Christina Barrett, who led the investigation, expressed her sorrow over the case, stating, “Logan Ormston died because the people who should have been protecting him completely failed him.
Instead of caring for him, he suffered at their hands, and ultimately met his death.
Our thoughts remain with Logan’s father and grandparents and the rest of his family, who have lost him in such awful circumstances.
We hope they are now able to begin to move forward with their lives.” Logan’s father, Mickey Rathbone, shared his heartbreak, saying, “Logan’s death has affected me badly.
I put my trust in these people to look after my son, and this happened.
It’s left me feeling angry and disappointed.
This shouldn’t have to happen to anybody; no one should have to go through this.” The court’s decision underscores the devastating impact of this case on the community of Gateshead and highlights the importance of accountability in protecting vulnerable children.
