MAN JAILED FOR STABBING GIRLFRIEND'S BROTHER AFTER FUNERAL ARGUMENT
A man named Karl Gough received a nine-year prison sentence following a violent attack. He pleaded guilty to charges including wounding with intent, assault, and possession of an offensive weapon.
The assault took place after a dispute during a memorial service, where he was drinking with Elizabeth Harrison.
Gough was agitated by a loud party nearby, and after an argument with Alfie Harrison, Elizabeth's brother, he grabbed a serrated carving knife.
When Elizabeth Harrison tried to intervene, Gough punched her to the ground and kicked her in the head, rendering her unconscious.
Subsequently, he stabbed Mr.
Harrison in the stomach, inflicting injuries that made him believe he might die.
It was explained in court that the knife penetrated Mr.
Harrison’s abdominal wall, lacerating his liver and damaging his gall bladder.
Emergency surgery was necessary to remove the gall bladder, and Mr.
Harrison endured lasting physical scars and psychological impacts.
Gough fled the scene immediately but was detained nearby, with blood on his hands, face, and neck.
Recorder Simon Kealey addressed him, stating, “Many people are not as fortunate as Mr.
Harrison to survive a knife wound from you.” A lifelong restraining order was issued against Gough for both victims, and he was sentenced to nine years behind bars.
