PENZANCE NURSE JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF MINOR
Karen Louise Holland, a nurse from Penzance, was convicted of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl over 20 years ago.
She had an inappropriate sexual relationship with the victim, referred to in court as 'Person A,' which involved digital penetration and oral sex.
Holland, who had been a registered nurse since 1999 and employed as a health visitor by Cornwall Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust, admitted to the charges and pleaded guilty during her police interview.
She was sentenced to three years and six months in prison at Truro Crown Court and was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) misconduct hearing concluded that her actions caused serious damage to the reputation of the nursing profession.
As a result, they resolved to strike her off the register, emphasizing that the seriousness of her criminal activities and the potential to discredit the profession warranted a permanent removal from the register.
The panel highlighted that although the offences were historic and did not concern patient harm or her clinical practice, her misconduct undermined public confidence and public interest required her to be struck off to uphold professional standards.
