A PAEDOPHILE WHO UNWITTINGLY ENGAGED IN EXPLICIT ONLINE MESSAGING WITH WHAT HE BELIEVED WERE CHILDREN HAS BEEN JAILED
Kai Bell, also known by the name Ben Ryan Barclay, engaged in conversations with several decoys pretending to be 12-year-old girls.
He sent explicit images and videos of himself and coordinated a meeting time and location, with the intent to commit further offences.
The individual, now aged 20, was detained in June of the previous year and faced numerous charges in September, after violating his bail conditions.
Residing on Saint Peters Road in Newcastle, Bell appeared at Newcastle Crown Court in February and admitted to 13 charges.
These included three counts of attempting to induce a child under 13 to view sexual images, two counts of trying to cause teenagers aged 13-15 to view such images, two counts of attempting to incite sexual activity in a female under 13, four counts of communicating sexually with a child, and one count of meeting a child following grooming.
On June 13th, 2025, he was brought before the same court and sentenced to six years in prison.
He will serve the initial two months in a youth detention facility until he turns 21, with an additional four years on extended licence post-release.
Furthermore, Bell will remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and has been issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) that lasts indefinitely.
