CROYDON MAN SENTENCED TO JAIL FOR GROOMING AND CHILD ABDUCTION
A man identified as Junior Juba, aged 26, was sentenced to 18 months in jail for child abduction after grooming a 14-year-old girl via Facebook. The offender used the alias 'Aone Mula' to target the young girl, who was found by detectives in the stairwell of his flats in Kidderminster Road, Croydon, on June 5 of that year, four days after her parents reported her missing to police.
Officers had previously discovered a piece of paper with a phone number for 'Aone Mula' in her bedroom, according to Scotland Yard.
Despite her refusal to testify against Juba, he was charged with child abduction and convicted after a trial at Croydon Crown Court, where he denied the charges.
In addition to his jail sentence, he received a five-year sexual offences prevention order.
Detective Sergeant Dominic Doyle from Croydon CID explained that Juba preyed upon an extremely vulnerable young girl, keeping her away from her family and care providers.
The judge indicated no doubt that Juba was grooming her and showed no remorse for his actions.
Following his conviction, Croydon police urged young victims of sexual exploitation to come forward as part of Operation Makesafe.
The investigation was led by Detective Sergeant Doyle, who emphasized the importance of community support in safeguarding young people from sexual exploitation.
