JUNADE ALI GILLINGHAM DOG BREEDER CONVICTED OF ANIMAL CRUELTY IN MEDWAY

Junade Ali, also known as Jay Ali, was born on July 11, 1995, and was previously residing on Gillingham Road in Gillingham, Kent. He gained notoriety as a backyard breeder operating under the name GlogodsK9 Kennels, where he specialized in breeding a variety of dog breeds including Belgian Shepherds, German Shepherds, Presa Canario, Weimaraners, Neapolitan Mastiffs, and Dogue de Bordeaux. However, his reputation was marred by serious allegations of animal cruelty and neglect that culminated in a criminal conviction in 2022.

In 2019, Medway Council’s environmental protection officers conducted an inspection of a property linked to Ali after he inquired about obtaining a license to breed dogs. During this investigation, officers discovered a disturbing scene: three Belgian Malinois, two Neapolitan Mastiffs, and 18 puppies were found living in deplorable conditions. Many of these dogs were deprived of basic necessities such as bedding and water, and they were confined in cramped spaces that were clearly unsuitable for their well-being. Some of the animals were kept in crates that were far too small to accommodate them comfortably. Additionally, two dogs were being kept in an apartment located above the main property, raising further concerns about their welfare.

Following the inspection, officers raised serious welfare concerns with Ali and contacted the RSPCA to intervene. In early January 2020, Ali contacted the council to claim that he no longer possessed some of the dogs. Despite this, a joint investigation involving the council and the RSPCA was launched, leading to a subsequent inspection later that month. During this follow-up, authorities seized a total of 19 dogs, which included 15 puppies and four adult dogs. The conditions in which these animals were kept had deteriorated further, with some suffering from urine burns on their paws. One dog was found to have an untreated, painful eye condition that required surgical intervention.

The investigation revealed that Ali had initially contacted the council to inquire about obtaining a breeding license because he was unable to advertise his puppies for sale on various online platforms without one. This indicated an attempt to legitimize his breeding activities, despite the evident neglect and poor conditions of the animals involved.

In court, Ali was sentenced to a 12-month community order and ordered to pay £600 towards court costs. He was also banned from owning, keeping, or dealing with any animals for a period of five years, a ban that is set to expire in April 2027. Despite the severity of the case, Ali’s appeal against his conviction was allowed on January 6, 2025, although the evidence presented during his original prosecution was substantial and damning.

These events highlight the ongoing issues surrounding illegal and unethical dog breeding practices in the Gillingham area and serve as a reminder of the importance of animal welfare enforcement in Kent.
