JULIE CARTER FROM BICESTER SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CAT KILLING INCIDENT
In a disturbing case that shocked the community of Bicester, Julie Carter, born on March 9, 1970, was convicted in 2010 for the brutal killing of eight of her pet cats. The incident took place at her residence located at 22 Herald Way, Bicester OX26 4SF, where she carried out these heinous acts over a span of more than a week.According to court records, Carter, a mother of one, deliberately drowned each of her fully grown cats, which ranged in age from one to three years old. The method of killing was particularly cruel, involving holding the animals underwater in a baby bath at her home. The court heard that between May 25 and June 7, 2010, she inflicted unnecessary suffering on her pets, leading to their deaths.
The case came to light when a staff member from Charter Community Housing visited Carter’s residence and was immediately struck by the overwhelming smell of cat urine emanating from the property. This prompted a visit and inspection, during which Carter was instructed to remove some of her eleven cats and to thoroughly clean her house to address the unsanitary conditions.
However, when RSPCA inspector Doug Davidson arrived at the property, he found only three cats remaining. During subsequent questioning, Carter admitted to the inspector that she had killed the other eight cats. Her actions and the extent of her cruelty were confirmed during the investigation.
Defense attorney Paul Bevan argued that Carter was aware of her actions but possessed a “limited degree of understanding” about the severity of her crimes. He also mentioned that Carter had received threats related to the case, which may have influenced her mental state.
Ultimately, the court sentenced Carter to 12 weeks in jail. Additionally, she was issued a lifetime ban on owning or caring for any animals, a measure aimed at preventing further harm to animals in her custody. The case drew significant media attention, highlighting issues of animal cruelty and the importance of animal welfare enforcement in the Bicester area.
