OFFENDER MADE ACID ATTACK THREAT TO MOTHER OF HIS CHILD

A frequent offender on the Isle of Wight, who threatened to throw acid at his former girlfriend and harm her with a hammer, has been sentenced to prison.

He also stated his intention to hit her over the head with a claw hammer and abduct their child while she was unconscious.

Joshua Honan-Parr, aged 27 and formerly residing on Ocean View Road in Ventnor, appeared at the Isle of Wight Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday, October 2.

Honan-Parr had previously admitted to several charges, including assaulting an emergency worker, sending threatening messages, vandalism, and violating a restraining order.

His crimes also breached a 12-month suspended sentence issued in May of the previous year for harassment of his ex-partner.

Prosecutor Timothy Fulford outlined that the first of Honan-Parr's recent offences occurred on June 10, 2024.

During that incident, Honan-Parr was arrested for an unrelated matter and kicked a police officer in the calf, causing sharp pain and a sudden loss of balance.

His subsequent offending involved his former partner, with whom he had a relationship lasting one to two years.

On July 1, 2024, she was at home with their child when she received an anonymous call.

Recognizing Honan-Parr's voice, he threatened to throw acid on her and said he would break into her home to attack her with a claw hammer if she did not open the door.

He also claimed he would abduct their child once she lost consciousness.

When she responded that she would call the police, Honan-Parr warned her she would suffer harm.

Two days later, while at a friend's house, she received another anonymous call from him, during which he threatened to come to her residence, remove the door, and smash the windows.

On July 21, while incarcerated, Honan-Parr called her again, claiming he had pleaded not guilty and possessed evidence to embarrass her.

In February this year, the victim received another call from Honan-Parr asking to see their child.

She declined, prompting a change in his behaviour, during which he let the tires down on her car.

Later, he warned her not to drive the vehicle, expressing regret over his actions.

The court also heard that Honan-Parr made further threats of violence, attempted to seize her phone and car keys, and was restrained until police arrived.

Additional breaches involved writing letters to her and her grandmother.

Victim impact statements were read aloud; one was later withdrawn, describing her as terrified by his threats and unpredictable conduct.

The second statement expressed her wish to lift restrictions on his contact so he could maintain a relationship with their child.

Defense lawyer Jackalyn Chan, citing Honan-Parr’s autism, ADHD, and a history of drug abuse, stated he had been in prison for 416 days over the past 18 months and had shown some progress.

Judge James Newton-Price commented that Honan-Parr’s conduct marked by 19 previous convictions for 53 offences was driven by an inability to accept the end of their relationship and poor anger management.

Honan-Parr requested that the restraining order remain in place.

Ultimately, he received a 28-month prison sentence.
