ISLE OF WIGHT PAEDOPHILE PAUL NORMAN BACK IN JAIL AFTER HIDING PHONES
A PAEDOPHILE was sent back to prison just days after his release on licence, when police found unregistered mobile phones hidden in his Isle of Wight flat.Paul Norman, currently held at HMP Isle of Wight, appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 13.
The 66-year-old admitted breaching the strict terms of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) by failing to declare two devices.
Norman, of The Rogers in Shanklin, had been jailed for two years in December 2024 for previous breaches of the same order, which had been imposed by the Isle of Wight Crown Court on February 1, 2022.
That earlier case involved Norman downloading Snapchat and deleting chat histories, during a routine police visit on September 16, 2024.
Officers later uncovered he had been in communication with an American schoolgirl and had received nude photographs from her.
Lauren McConnell, prosecuting, told magistrates that shortly after his release from prison on licence, on December 12 last year, two police officers attended his address unannounced to install monitoring software on the single mobile phone he had declared.
The order strictly prohibits Norman from using any internet-enabled device, without first notifying the police's local Public Protection Unit.
As soon as officers entered the flat, it immediately became clear he had three mobile phones.
He attempted to conceal two unregistered phones and, when challenged, became defensive.
Norman was subject to unannounced visits from his offender manager as part of his risk‑management plan, and the discovery of the concealed devices was treated as a serious breach.
All three phones were seized and Norman was arrested at the scene.
The court heard Norman, on the Sex Offenders’ Register, is classed as a high‑risk individual requiring close monitoring.
No mitigation was put forward.
Magistrates ordered a pre‑sentence report and remanded him in custody.
Norman will appear at the Isle of Wight Crown Court for sentencing on March 30.
