JOSEPH YUEN FROM BURY SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN GREATER MANCHESTER
A man identified as Joseph Yuen, residing in Bury, Greater Manchester, has been sentenced to a decade behind bars after being convicted of multiple counts of rape.The case came to light following a police report filed in January 2021, initiated by a woman who had endured repeated assaults by Yuen.
According to police records and court proceedings, Yuen, aged 30 and living on Bournville Drive, engaged in a pattern of criminal behavior that involved raping the woman on numerous occasions while she was asleep and under the influence of alcohol.
The court heard that these assaults often occurred when the victim was intoxicated, and she would wake up to find herself being assaulted, indicating a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.
The investigation revealed that Yuen had exchanged text messages with the victim, in which he made incriminating admissions regarding his actions.
These messages, which included apologies, were later used as evidence during the trial.
The court noted that Yuen's apologies appeared to be an attempt to mitigate his guilt, but he denied any actual admissions of guilt during police interviews.
Following the victim’s decision to report the incidents, police swiftly apprehended Yuen.
During the trial at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, the prosecution presented compelling evidence of his guilt.
Yuen was found guilty of two counts of rape and was subsequently sentenced to ten years in prison.
In a statement, a police spokeswoman expressed gratitude towards the victim for her bravery in coming forward.
She emphasized that her courage was instrumental in bringing the case to justice.
The spokeswoman also noted that Yuen’s arrest was made shortly after the allegations surfaced.
She further explained that although Yuen denied all the charges and admitted to sending apologetic texts, he insisted these messages did not constitute admissions of guilt.
The sentencing aims to provide some measure of closure for the victim, affirming that Yuen is now held accountable for his actions and is serving time for his crimes.
