VILE ELY MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ABUSE AGAINST WIFE
An abuser whose campaign of violence and coercive control left his wife living in fear has been jailed.Joseph McEnaney, 31, of Carey Close, Ely, began abusing his wife in February, just three months after they married.
He told her she had to choose between "him or them", referring to her children from a previous relationship.
McEnaney also threatened to kill the victim and her children.
The following month, while in a car, he punched her in the face and hit her head against the door after accusing her of being unfaithful.
After she went to sleep later that day, he woke her up, picked her up by the throat, threw her to the floor, and punched and kicked her in the head.
In June, McEnaney threatened the victim with a knife.
After grabbing her by the throat and pushing her against a door, he prodded the knife around her head and dragged it down her face, making a small cut.
Just days later, when the victim asked him to move over in bed, he launched into another terrifying attack.
He bit her lip, threw her onto the bed, punched her, and pinned her down by the neck, restricting her breathing.
On another occasion that month, he ridiculed the victim about her weight in front of others at a gym.
She managed to flee their home and reach a safe place later in June.
McEnaney pleaded guilty to engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate/family relationship, two counts of intentional strangulation, and three counts of actual bodily harm (ABH).
One count of intentional strangulation was ordered to lay on file.
He was sentenced to two years and three months in prison at Peterborough Crown Court on Friday (November 21).
