JOSEPH JUKES SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS IN PRISON FOR ABUSE IN HARTLEPOOL
In a significant case that has shocked the community of Hartlepool, Joseph Jukes, a 79-year-old man, has been sentenced to 16 years behind bars after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses.The conviction follows a detailed trial during which Jukes was charged with raping a young girl, committing five counts of indecent assault against children, and engaging in five separate acts of gross indecency with minors.

One victim recounted how they had been “robbed of a childhood,” describing their fear and trauma during the abuse.
The statement conveyed a sense of ongoing suffering, with the victim stating, “I was so scared of what was coming next.” Another victim’s statement was particularly poignant, highlighting the long-term effects of the abuse.
They explained that since the incidents, they have struggled with self-confidence and trust issues, feeling that Jukes had “robbed me of my life, my childhood and my education.” The individual expressed regret that they had never worn a dress or skirt and revealed a deep mistrust of men, asserting, “Joseph Jukes has ruined my life.” Judge Morris, presiding over the case, acknowledged the challenges Jukes might face in prison, noting that he is a wheelchair user.
Despite this, the judge was clear in his condemnation, stating, “You’ve ruined lives and lives continue to be blighted by your exploits when you were a bully and a sexual predator.” The judge emphasized the cruelty of Jukes’ actions, which forced victims to relive their trauma repeatedly.
“You’ve made your victims relive their ordeal, which must have been harrowing,” he said.
While the possibility of early release remains uncertain, Judge Morris made it clear that Jukes’ own actions have led to his current predicament.
“You may never come out of prison, although you’ve only got yourself to blame for that,” he concluded, sending a strong message about accountability and justice for the victims of this disturbing case in Hartlepool.
