LONDON MAN JAILED FOR MURDERING WIFE AFTER ONLINE STAB SEARCH

A man convicted of murdering his wife after researching the most painful places to stab someone online has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 22 years.

Jose Leonardo, aged 56, killed Maria Mbombo, aged 52, at their residence in Belsize Park, west London, on 18 May.

The court at the Old Bailey heard that Leonardo admitted to the killing but argued it was manslaughter caused by loss of self-control.

Although he was found guilty of murder, the jury cleared him of perverting the course of justice.

Evidence presented showed that on the day of the incident, Leonardo searched Google for phrases like “can I survive stab in the eye?” and “most painful place to stab someone.” Later that evening, their son contacted emergency services while attempting to revive her.

It was noted that Ms Mbombo was covered in blood and had been dead for some time prior to medical assistance arriving.

Detective Inspector Simon Deefholts revealed that Leonardo had a history of violence towards Maria, including an incident in Belgium in March 2016 where she suffered three knife wounds.

Despite no formal reports to UK police, Leonardo’s violent temper was well known.

The court imposed a mandatory life sentence, setting a minimum of 22 years before Leonardo could be considered for parole.
