JORDAN MOORE JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCE IN SOUTHAMPTON
Jordan Moore, who was 21 at the time of the offence, used Snapchat to contact a girl from the New Forest area, who cannot be named for legal reasons.He then traveled across the country from his residence on Station Road, Croydon, to meet the girl, who was accompanied by a friend.
Detective Sergeant Claire Ratcliffe explained to the Daily Echo that initially, the girls believed Moore, who was 24, was "kind and funny." However, the situation changed when the victim found herself alone; Moore then sexually assaulted her.
The girls reported the rape, with Moore denying the allegations to police immediately.
On Tuesday, a jury unanimously found Moore guilty of one count of rape after a seven-day trial at Southampton Crown Court.
Prosecution barrister Tim Moores presented a victim impact statement, describing how the girl’s life has been profoundly affected and noting that "the event will be with her forever." Extracts from her statement revealed her feelings: "During the time he had locked me in the back of the car I was terrified he was going to kill me." She also stated, "I have to live the rest of my life knowing what he did to me.
I will never escape it." The court heard she has experienced sleepless nights and has cried herself to sleep.
Defence lawyer Len Furlong pointed out that Moore has no relevant previous convictions and noted that the case had been ongoing since 2018 as a mitigating factor.
During sentencing, Judge Nicholas Rowland stated, “She repeatedly said stop and you did not do so.” Moore wept as he was sentenced to six years and six months in prison.
Additionally, he will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
DS Claire Ratcliffe expressed her satisfaction with the verdict, saying, “I am absolutely delighted with the result.
I just can’t commend the victim enough for the strength she has shown over the last two years.
I hope that it can be of some closure for her.”
