JORDAN EDMENT FROM WISHAW SENTENCED FOR CRUELTY TO DOGS IN SCOTLAND
Jordan Robert Edment, also known as Jordan McQuade, born on May 10, 2000, and residing at 38 Kilmeny Crescent, Wishaw ML2 8QS, has been found guilty of severe animal neglect that led to the suffering and death of one of his dogs. The case, which drew significant attention from local animal welfare authorities, highlights the tragic consequences of neglect and the importance of responsible pet ownership in the Wishaw area.On November 7, 2019, Scottish SPCA Inspector Heather Lawson responded to a distress call from Police Scotland, who had attended Edment’s property following a separate incident. The police had expressed grave concern over the condition of two dogs at the residence, describing one as being in a state of extreme emaciation and the other as significantly underweight. The inspector recounted that the police had encountered a dog that was so malnourished that it was described as skin and bones, prompting immediate intervention.
One of the dogs, a two-year-old Pakistani Mastiff named Rumple, was found in a dire state. He weighed only 40 kilograms, with his ribs, spine, and hip bones clearly visible through his emaciated frame. His posture was hunched, and he appeared to be suffering from dehydration and malnutrition. Despite efforts to treat him, Rumple’s condition worsened, and he was humanely euthanized after failing to respond to veterinary care. The veterinary examination confirmed that Rumple was severely malnourished, weighing just 39.3 kilograms—significantly below the healthy weight for his breed and age.
The second dog, a Johnston’s Bulldog-type named Butch, was also found to be underweight, approximately four to five kilograms below a healthy weight. Both dogs displayed friendly and excitable temperaments, and when given water, they drank eagerly, indicating their dehydration. It was discovered that neither dog had received any recent veterinary treatment, which contributed to their poor health. The Scottish SPCA seized both animals immediately and transported them for urgent medical attention.
Veterinary assessments revealed that Rumple’s health had deteriorated to a critical level, and the decision was made to put him to sleep on welfare grounds. Sadly, his suffering was deemed unavoidable due to Edment’s failure to seek proper veterinary care and provide adequate nutrition. Butch, meanwhile, remained in the care of the Scottish SPCA, and efforts are ongoing to find him a loving forever home.
In court, Edment pleaded guilty to charges of animal cruelty related to the neglect of Rumple and Butch. The sentencing included a ten-year ban on owning animals and a deprivation order for Butch, ensuring he will not be returned to Edment’s care. The case underscores the importance of animal welfare laws and the responsibilities of pet owners in Scotland, particularly in the Wishaw area, where this tragic neglect occurred.
