JONATHON FELL FROM CARLISLE AND WORKINGTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES USING SECRET PHONE
In a disturbing case that highlights ongoing concerns about online safety and the monitoring of sex offenders, Jonathon Fell, a 23-year-old man with ties to both Carlisle and Workington, was sentenced to 45 months in prison by Carlisle Crown Court for a series of heinous crimes involving the exploitation of children.Fell’s criminal activities came to light in February of the previous year, when authorities uncovered his use of a clandestine mobile device to search for and communicate with potential child victims. The investigation was initiated after a Probation Service officer, who was conducting an interview with Fell in Workington, noticed a mobile phone vibrating in his pocket. When questioned about the device, Fell initially denied possessing a phone, but he was eventually compelled to produce it. The phone was subsequently seized and examined by police.
The forensic analysis revealed a trove of thousands of incriminating messages, exposing Fell’s pattern of online grooming. It was discovered that he had been actively visiting chatrooms and online forums with the intent of finding children to manipulate and exploit. The police investigation uncovered that Fell had made multiple attempts to incite children into sexual activities, with charges including four counts of attempting to persuade a child to engage in sexual conduct and four counts of attempting to communicate sexually with a minor.
The most disturbing aspect of the case involved Fell instructing a nine-year-old boy on how to sexually interfere with his three-year-old sibling. According to court reports, Fell made sure that the child was alone during these exchanges, demonstrating a calculated effort to target vulnerable children. When confronted by authorities, Fell initially denied any wrongdoing but then made a chilling admission, stating, “I can’t stop myself.”
Fell’s history includes previous residence at Wastwater Avenue in Workington and more recently at Lowther Street in Carlisle. Due to the severity of his crimes, he will be required to register as a sex offender indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and the effectiveness of police and probation efforts in catching offenders who attempt to evade detection through secret devices and online activity. A senior officer from Cumbria Police emphasized that this case demonstrates that sex offenders under community supervision will be identified and brought to justice, reinforcing the commitment to protecting children from such predatory behavior.
