JOSEPH BUCKLEY SENTENCED IN CARLISLE FOR RAPE AND ASSAULT CASES

A man identified as Joseph Buckley has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of multiple serious crimes, including rape, assault, and controlling behavior. The offences, which took place over a period spanning from December 2020 to January 2023, involved two different women and have caused significant distress to the victims involved.

Joseph Buckley, who is known to have no fixed address and is associated with the city of Carlisle, was found guilty of these charges at Carlisle Crown Court. The court sentenced him to a total of 25 years in prison. Of this, he will serve 19 years behind bars, with an additional six-year extension period, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.

In addition to his prison sentence, Buckley was subjected to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, which aims to restrict his behavior and protect the community from further harm. This order signifies the serious concern authorities have regarding his potential to commit further offences.

The case drew attention from Cumbria Police, with Detective Constable Karen Minnion commenting on the proceedings. She stated, "Buckley subjected his victims to assaults and threats on their lives. It is understandably difficult and distressing for victims of abuse to talk about what happened to them, and any reports we receive will be taken seriously and will be dealt with professionally and sensitively."

Detective Minnion further emphasized the importance of reporting such crimes, encouraging anyone who has been a victim of sexual offences to come forward. She assured the public that police officers are committed to investigating these cases thoroughly and providing support to victims throughout the process, ensuring their safety and well-being are prioritized.
