JONATHAN ROBINSON SENTENCED IN BECCLES FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST SCHOOLGIRLS
In March 2018, a 66-year-old man from Beccles named Jonathan Robinson was handed a significant prison sentence after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two young schoolgirls.The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about the offenses committed by Robinson, who resided on Darby Road in Beccles.
Judge David Goodin presided over the case at Ipswich Crown Court and sentenced Robinson to four years behind bars.
During the sentencing, Judge Goodin remarked, “You were plainly in the grip of something you couldn’t control,” highlighting the court’s recognition of the complex nature of the case while emphasizing the severity of the crimes.
Robinson pleaded guilty to one count of indecent assault and two counts of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13.
The court also imposed additional restrictions on Robinson’s future conduct by issuing a sexual harm prevention order, which will remain in effect indefinitely.
Furthermore, Robinson was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register, a requirement that will also be in place for an indefinite period.
The case came to light after one of the victims confided in her mother, revealing that she had a secret and subsequently disclosing that Robinson had “tickled her privates.” This revelation prompted an investigation, during which Robinson was questioned about the allegations.
He admitted to crossing the line but attempted to justify his actions by claiming that the girl was a flirt, a defense that did little to mitigate the court’s view of his guilt.
In addition to the allegations involving the first victim, Robinson was also found to have touched the breasts of the second girl, further compounding the seriousness of his offenses.
The court’s decision reflects the gravity of the crimes committed and the need to protect vulnerable children from such predatory behavior.
