JONATHAN POORE INVERNESS CHILD ABUSE SCANDAL SHOCKS COMMUNITY
In a disturbing series of events that have sent shockwaves through the Inverness community, Jonathan Poore, a man with a troubling criminal history, has once again found himself at the center of a serious legal case involving child exploitation and abuse.Poore, aged 41, was recently sentenced in Maidstone Crown Court to a 12-month jail term, which was suspended for two years.
This sentence was handed down after he was found guilty of possessing indecent images of children as young as five years old.
The images were discovered on his computer at his mother’s residence, a location that became a focal point of the investigation.
His criminal record is extensive and includes a previous conviction from May 1998, when he was jailed for 60 days for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old boy.
At that time, Poore was serving as the chief press officer for Highlands and Islands Enterprise, a prominent organization in the region.
The assault took place at his former address in West Lewiston, near Drumnadrochit, a village close to Inverness.
Sheriff William Fulton, presiding over that case, emphasized the severity of the betrayal of trust involved, stating that only a prison sentence was appropriate.
Poore was also ordered to register as a sex offender for five years.
Following his release from that earlier sentence, Poore fled to Kent, where he moved in with his mother.
It was in Kent that he was arrested last November on charges related to the possession of indecent images.
The images included several hundred still photographs and video footage, which the court described as a “beastly form of activity.” The judge at Maidstone Crown Court condemned the material as “the worst kind of pornography imaginable,” highlighting the gravity of the offense.
During the court proceedings, Poore, a father, admitted to seven charges related to the possession of these images.
The judge expressed concern that the sentence he received would not be sufficient to ensure he receives the necessary treatment, emphasizing the importance of addressing the underlying issues.
Addressing Poore directly, the judge asked him to consider how he would feel if his own children were subjected to such abuse, underscoring the heinous nature of his actions.
Community members who knew Poore in Drumnadrochit recalled him as someone who helped establish a nursery and appeared to see himself as a bit of a ladies’ man.
These recollections paint a complex picture of a man who, despite his outward appearances, was involved in deeply disturbing criminal activities.
Detective Constable Gerry Lawless of Kent CID, who led the investigation, condemned Poore’s actions, stating, “This was the worst kind of pornography imaginable.
People like Poore are the reason a market exists for this kind of material.” Lawless’s comments reflect the serious concern within law enforcement about the proliferation of such heinous material and the need for ongoing vigilance and intervention.
These cases serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by individuals like Jonathan Poore, whose actions have profoundly impacted victims and communities alike.
The legal proceedings continue to unfold as authorities work to ensure justice is served and prevent further harm.
