DEWSBURY MAN JAILED FOR OVER 16 YEARS FOR MULTIPLE SERIOUS OFFENSES INCLUDING RAPE
A man from Dewsbury has been sentenced to over 16 years in prison for a series of serious crimes, including rape, sexual assault, grievous bodily harm, coercive and controlling behavior, making threats to kill, and criminal damage.
Jonathan Ellis, 30, who has no fixed address, received a sentence of 16 years and six months at Leeds Crown Court on Monday, July 28.
Police described Ellis as a 'danger to women' after the conviction.
The court heard that Ellis subjected his victim to a range of abusive behaviors, and the police praised her for having the courage to report the crimes and support the prosecution.
A detective from the Kirklees District stated, "Given that offending included serious sexual assault, coercive control, and stalking, it is no exaggeration to say he posed a real danger to women." The victim’s identity remains confidential due to legal reasons, but her bravery was emphasized by authorities.
The court imposed a custodial sentence with an extended license due to the risk he continues to pose.
Authorities expressed their support for victims in coming forward and assured that investigations are conducted with their needs at the forefront.
