JOHN WEBB SENTENCED IN NEATH FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES COMMITTED IN CARDIFF DECADES AGO

A man named John Webb, aged 70, has been found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses that occurred over two decades ago in Cardiff. The crimes involved the sexual assault and rape of two male victims and one female victim, all of whom were under the age of 18 at the time of the incidents. Webb’s criminal actions only came to light after one of his victims reported the abuse to the police in 2019, prompting a thorough investigation by South Wales Police.

Following the report, authorities in Neath, where Webb resides, initiated an extensive inquiry. During this investigation, two additional victims were identified and provided statements detailing their experiences. All three victims recounted that the abuse took place during the 1990s in Cardiff, a city known for its vibrant culture and history, but also marred by this dark chapter of abuse.

Webb was subsequently arrested at his residence in Neath, and the case was brought before Cardiff Crown Court. Last year, Webb faced a jury and was convicted on a total of 21 charges. These included three counts of rape, five counts of indecent assault, and seven counts of indecent assault on a male. The severity of his crimes and the impact on his victims led the court to impose a substantial sentence of 24 years in prison. The sentencing took place on March 8 at Cardiff Crown Court, marking a significant step in justice for the victims.

Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Jenna Hargraves of South Wales Police issued a statement emphasizing the profound emotional toll Webb’s actions have inflicted. She stated, “Webb’s actions have taken a massive emotional toll on all three victims. For one of them, their life headed towards criminality because they struggled to cope with what had happened. Another victim described Webb as a violent man. But thanks to their bravery and a thorough investigation, he has been brought to justice.”

Hargraves also reiterated the police force’s commitment to addressing sexual violence, encouraging victims to come forward regardless of how much time has passed since the incident. She emphasized that support and assistance are available for all victims and urged anyone with additional information about Webb or similar cases to contact the authorities. The message was clear: it is never too late to seek justice and support for sexual abuse victims, and the police remain dedicated to pursuing such cases diligently.
