JOHN ROBINSON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN CROYDON AND PURLEY
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Croydon and Purley, a 77-year-old man named John Robinson has been convicted and sentenced for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against young girls. The crimes, which spanned over several years, involved the abuse of five girls whose ages ranged from as young as eight to fourteen. Robinson, a resident of Brighton Road in Purley, was brought to justice after a lengthy investigation that uncovered disturbing details of his misconduct.Robinson was formally sentenced to 12 years in prison at Croydon Crown Court on Tuesday, February 13. The court also stipulated that he must serve a minimum of six years before he becomes eligible for parole, reflecting the severity of his crimes. The allegations against him date back to the 1980s, when the abuse took place at an address in Croydon. The victims, whose identities remain protected, endured these traumatic experiences during their childhood, with the abuse only coming to light decades later.
The initial report to the police was made in April 2014, prompting a comprehensive investigation into the allegations. Detectives swiftly responded, arresting Robinson in the same month. Over the following years, law enforcement officials meticulously gathered evidence, interviewed witnesses, and built a solid case against him. Their diligent efforts culminated in charges being filed on April 8, 2017, when Robinson was formally accused of 11 counts of indecent assault involving girls under the age of 14, relating to five separate victims.
Robinson made his first court appearance at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on May 9 of the previous year. During this initial hearing, he pleaded not guilty to all charges. The case then proceeded to a trial at Croydon Crown Court, where the evidence presented by the prosecution proved overwhelming. After a thorough trial, Robinson was found guilty of all 11 counts of indecent assault on the five young girls. The court's verdict was delivered on the same day as the sentencing, marking a significant moment of justice for the victims and their families. Robinson’s conviction underscores the importance of perseverance in uncovering and prosecuting historical abuse cases, and serves as a stark reminder of the enduring impact of such crimes on victims and communities alike.
