GATESHEAD MAN WHO RAPED WOMAN BEFORE TELLING HER SHE LOOKED BEAUTIFUL WHILE CRYING LOCKED UP
A man who raped a woman before telling her that she looked beautiful while crying has been locked up for a decade.John Quinn, 30, sexually assaulted the woman before raping her at an address in Gateshead.
After the assault, the 30-year-old, of Barford Court, Low Fell, Gateshead, told the female: "you look beautiful when you're crying".
The brave victim came forward and reported the abuse to police.
The next day, Quinn was charged with a number of offences related to the abuse.
He was found guilty of rape and sexual offence following a six-day trial at Newcastle Crown Court in June this year and remanded in custody.
On Wednesday, he returned to the court in Newcastle to be sentenced for the two offences as well as perverting the course of justice, breaching a suspended sentence and two counts of breaching a restraining order.
He was jailed for 10-and-a-half years in total, eight-and-a-half of which is for the sexual offences.
In a statement, the victim said: "The impact of his abuse continues to negatively impact my life.

He’s ripped everything away from me." "I am always fearful of driving to see my family or walking anywhere close by – and feel as though I am constantly looking over my shoulder, fearing for my safety and for my life.

I used to be such a bubbly, outgoing person and I am not like that anymore.
I am very quiet and constantly live my life in fear." "I feel I have been given a life sentence.

He has destroyed me." Quinn will also spend the rest of his life on the sex offenders register.
He was also handed a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order and restraining orders to protect the victim.
Police Constable Graham Mason, of Northumbria Police's Rape Investigation Team (RIT), was in charge of the case.
He said: "John Quinn is an extremely dangerous man who has committed some of the most horrendous crimes someone can go through." "I’d like to thank the victim for her bravery and conviction throughout this entire process, and I hope after the sentencing today she may be able to start to move forward and re-build her life.
