OFFENDER JOHN PEEBLES SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULTS IN GRAN CANARIA

A woman was left 'humiliated and embarrassed' after her partner, 35-year-old John Peebles, repeatedly assaulted her during a holiday in Gran Canaria, leaving her with visible bruises, soreness, and nightmares.

The victim described feeling 'completely shocked' when Peebles bit her on her left arm on July 10 last year, during which she feared for her life due to his angry and aggressive behavior after drinking.

She managed to escape and called the police while hiding, and Peebles refused to leave the hotel.

He later blamed her for the incidents and insulted her by calling her 'tapped' and a 'psycho' via text messages.

Peebles was found to have committed multiple assaults, including pushing her onto a bed and kicking her, ripping her hoodie and taking her phone during an argument on July 2, when he also returned angry and caused her to fall down stairs with cuts and bruises.

During another attack, she suffered three fractured ribs.

Peebles, who has four previous domestic violence convictions, pleaded guilty to three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The court heard he has been in an abusive relationship with her since 2008 and was in breach of a community order.

Sentenced to 30 months in prison, he was also given a restraining order and ordered to pay £500 in compensation.

The judge highlighted his failure to improve and the severe psychological harm caused to the victim.
