WHITEHAVEN MAN JOHN MOFFEZ SENTENCED FOR POSSESSING CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN CUMBRIA
In a case that has shocked the community of Whitehaven, a local man identified as John Moffez has been convicted of possessing a significant collection of indecent images depicting children. The incident came to light in August 2015, when authorities conducted a search of Moffez's residence on Foxhouses Road, located in Whitehaven, West Cumbria.
During the police operation, officers seized various computer equipment believed to contain illicit material.
Forensic analysis of a tower device recovered from the scene revealed that Moffez had downloaded a total of 88 illegal images, including both still photographs and moving images.
Of these, 15 were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of indecency and harm.
Prior to this discovery, Moffez, aged 56, had entered a plea of not guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of children, covering the period from April 2014 to August 2015.
However, during a court hearing at Carlisle Crown Court, he changed his plea to guilty, acknowledging the seriousness of the charges against him.
Judge Peter Hughes QC presided over the case and sentenced Moffez to a six-month prison term, which was suspended for two years.
In addition to the suspended sentence, the court imposed a two-year community order, requiring Moffez to comply with various conditions aimed at rehabilitation and monitoring.
Furthermore, Moffez was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order and sex offender notification requirements, both of which will remain in effect for seven years.
These measures are designed to restrict his activities and ensure ongoing supervision to protect the community.
In delivering his judgment, Judge Hughes expressed his strong disapproval of the actions involved in viewing and possessing images of children being sexually abused.
He emphasized the abhorrence of such behavior and underscored the importance of safeguarding vulnerable minors from exploitation and harm.
