DYSART MAN CONVICTED OF ATTEMPTED RAPE ON SCHOOL GIRL
John Millar, a 35-year-old convicted sex offender, tried to sexually assault a schoolgirl in the woods near Kirkcaldy, Fife, while she was on her way to lunch.The girl was holding her phone and wearing headphones when the incident occurred in broad daylight.
Millar bicycled behind her, dismounted, and then grabbed her from behind.
He threw her to the ground and started groping her silently, but the girl managed to fight him off.
Startled by her screams and kicking, Millar ran away from the scene.
Authorities traced him to a flat in Kirkcaldy, where they recovered his bicycle and jacket.
Initially, he lied about his intentions, claiming he aimed to rob her, but he later confessed that his plan was to rape her, believing she would be "easy" due to her clothing.
Millar had previously been convicted in 2016 for sending explicit messages to a young girl.
During proceedings at Glasgow High Court, he admitted to attempting to rape the girl, and he now faces a lengthy prison sentence.
He is also registered as a sex offender.

Emergency services were called to a woodland area between Dunnikier Way and Hendry Road in Kirkcaldy at around 2.30pm on Thursday following reports of the alleged sex attack on a 16-year-old girl.
John Millar, from Fife, appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court charged with one count of attempted rape.
The 34-year-old man made no plea and was remanded in custody.
He is due to reappear in court within the next eight days.
