HEATED ARGUMENT BETWEEN HUSBAND AND WIFE TURNS INTO A PUBLIC SPECTACLE AT PUB
McDonagh of Highgrove Court in Spalding pleaded guilty to assaulting his wife by beating at Boston Magistrates’ Court on May 2.The court heard that he dragged his partner Lisa across the bar area before dropping her on the floor at the Draymans Arms in Spalding, and telling her to go outside.
The incident arose from a heated argument that started earlier at home on April 1 around 7.30pm.
McDonagh argued with his wife Lisa, which escalated in the pub.
Police were called, and the court was told alcohol fuelled his actions.
McDonagh denied losing his temper and said he wanted to get her out of the pub.
His partner, Lloyd Edwards, mentioned that McDonagh is bi-polar and that he had been drinking at the time.
McDonagh was fined £40 and ordered to pay £115 in costs and charges.
His partner said that on this day he had followed her to the pub after an argument at home, and he then tried to pull her out of the pub, leading to her falling over.
Mr Edwards added that McDonagh was remorseful and had stopped drinking to make amends.
An aggravating context to McDonagh’s history emerged later, when he was subsequently convicted of a further domestic violence offence involving the same victim.
On that occasion, McDonagh threw his wife from an upstairs window during an incident at their home, causing her to fall and sustain a broken arm.
The later conviction highlighted a serious pattern of escalating violence within the relationship, extending beyond the pub incident and resulting in significant physical injury.
