CROYDON NURSE JAILED FOR RAPE AFTER LURING VICTIM VIA DATING APP
A South London nurse has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after he was convicted of luring a woman back to his home and raping her.
The victim, who is in her 40s, described the attack that occurred on June 8, 2022, as having "had a devastating impact on every part of her life." John Iwuh, aged 54 and residing on Albert Road in South Norwood, used his position as a nurse to gain the victim's trust via a dating app, which he then exploited to meet her in person at Norwood Junction station.
He persuaded her to come to his house, falsely claiming he needed to prepare for a work shift.
Once inside his property, Iwuh repeatedly attempted to kiss the woman despite her refusals.
When she tried to leave, he forcefully took her into his bedroom and raped her.
The victim reported the incident promptly to the police on that same evening and received support throughout the investigation.
Iwuh's crime was further evidenced by video footage of the assault.
The court, held at Croydon Crown Court, sentenced him to 16 years and ordered his inclusion on the sex offenders register for life.
Detectives found 11,000 contacts on his phone, with a significant number of them linked to a woman's name and a dating app, raising concerns that other victims may be targeted under similar circumstances.
Police are urging potential victims to come forward, emphasizing their commitment to support and justice.
The victim expressed feeling emotionally numb and living in fear following the assault, highlighting the lasting trauma it has caused.
Support services are available for those affected by sexual offences.
