2005: 'SOCIAL PEST' JAILED FOR PREYING ON YOUNG GIRLS
John Humphreys, a 50-year-old amateur photographer from Droitwich, has been sentenced to 21 months in jail at Worcester Crown Court after admitting to attempting to lure young girls—some as young as 14—into posing for glamour images. He pleaded guilty to charges of encouraging a child to engage in prostitution or pornography and was handed a lifetime ban from working with children.
Additionally, Judge Andrew Geddes imposed a three-year anti-social behaviour order, describing Humphreys as "a social pest" who needs to be kept away from society.
The court heard that Humphreys targeted young girls, including the 14-year-old daughter of his employer, promising them lucrative modelling opportunities.
He was arrested following an encounter with a 14-year-old girl in Worcester, during which he provided her with his mobile number and used a false alias.
When her mother intercepted a call discussing underwear, topless, and nude glamour photographs, police were able to verify Humphreys’ predatory intentions.
It was also noted that he had previously broken a 2002 court order intended to prevent him from harassing a woman he had once photographed nude.
Humphreys had been in custody for ten weeks; his wife supported his family during this time.
The court highlighted that his plans involved selling indecent photographs for profit and personal satisfaction, exploiting vulnerable minors and causing anxiety within families.
